Funds Tuition Assistance
Fire Chief Randy Brown, Deputy Fire Chief Don Lehr, and Lt. Scott Brace of the Ocean City-Wright
Fire Department present a check to Dr. Mary Henderson, Director of the OWC Fort Walton Beach
Campus and Brian Shonk, Director of the OWC Public Safety Division and Criminal Justice Training
Center. The funds will be used to establish the Ocean City - Wright Fire Department Fund which will be
used to provide tuition assistance for Ocean City - Wright Fire Department employees attending OWC’s
programs in Emergency Administration and Management, Emergency Medical Services, and/or the
Bachelor of Applied Science with emphasis in Public Service Management.

Darkroom Donation
Reid Gilland of Valparaiso (left) discusses photographic darkroom equipment with Steve Phillips
(right) of OWC’s Division of Fine and Performing Arts. Gilland, who is the retired range chief at Eglin
Air Force Base and former Valparaiso City Commissioner, recently made a donation of two enlargers
and other photographic equipment to the college for photography classes.

Thomas Scholars Recognized
Fred Thomas, President of Thomco Enterprises of Fort Walton Beach, congratulates
recipients of the Yolanda Thomas Scholarship, established in memory of his
late wife, Yolanda. The scholarship supports women students who return to college

Thomhave Scholarships Remember Son
The family of the late Christian Thomhave presents Jim Chitwood, OWC Foundation Executive
Director, with a $11,000 check from the Christian Thomhave Memorial Golf Tournament held recently
at Foxwood Country Club in Crestview. The annual golf tournament, in memory of Christian, provides

Burke Scholars Thank General
Lt. Gen.(retired) Kelly Burke greets OWC nursing student and recipient of the
Kelly and Denny Burke Scholarship, Andrea Rinke, at a recent scholarship luncheon
at which recipients thanked the general and his family for their scholarship
support. The Burke 2 + 2 Scholarship, established in 1993, funds non-traditional
students at OWC, then provides additional support for two years at any public
academic institution in Florida.
